Chuck Schumer Tries Spreading “Blatant Lies” about Trump, Gets Hit With Fact-Check

Elon Musk’s Community Notes on X once again provided crucial clarification following a misleading statement made by Senator Chuck Schumer (D-CA) regarding President Donald Trump on the social media platform. Schumer was expressing his disapproval of the president’s decision to suspend federal funding as the administration aims to counter progressive ideologies within the federal government.

In his post on X, Schumer accused the Trump administration of jeopardizing funding for law enforcement, which he suggested posed a risk to public safety. The California Democrat stated, “Funding for law enforcement is now in danger thanks to Donald Trump.” However, the fact-checking feature, Community Notes, intervened to correct the misinformation.

The context provided by readers clarified, “EO clearly states: ‘This order does not apply to military personnel of the armed forces or to positions related to immigration enforcement, national security, or public safety.’” Conservative commentator Spitfire shared a screenshot of Schumer’s post, expressing, “I love that Democrats are getting called out on their blatant lies on X. Don’t stop fighting back against their disinformation!”

This incident elicited responses from conservatives on X. One user remarked, “The dems think they can keep saying the same lies over and over, and people are going to believe it. It hasn’t worked, and it will never.” Another user praised Community Notes, stating, “Thank God! Community Notes for the win!” Similarly, commentator American Paw Paw noted, “The dems’ lies are up for true scrutiny thanks to 𝕏.”

During a news conference on Wednesday, the Senate Minority Leader further criticized Trump’s funding freeze, asserting that “people are aroused” by the president’s actions. Schumer emphasized that the “roots of Democracy” are “deep” and that local and state leaders would communicate the concerns of average Americans directly to President Trump.

A reporter inquired of Schumer, “You talk about these different organizations and people in New York reaching out.”

He stated, “The foundations of democracy run deep. What we are advocating is for individuals to approach their local officials, including their congressman and senator, to relay their concerns to the president,” the New York Democrat remarked. “Indeed, the foundations of democracy are profound.” Schumer further elaborated, “The public is energized. It has been a considerable time since I have witnessed such enthusiasm among people striving to achieve this goal.” He added, “Therefore, I believe democracy will have an impact. We will persist in our efforts. We will pursue this through legal channels and legislative means. Additionally, we will continue to engage at the grassroots level.”

In the aftermath of President Trump’s significant victory in the 2024 election, The American Tribune reported on the appeals made by Teamsters International President Sean O’Brien, who urged Democratic leaders like Schumer and Nancy Pelosi to step aside. Trump garnered unprecedented support from union voters, a demographic traditionally aligned with the Democratic Party.
